The Song "ONE-United"
began with the stirring poem "One." Written by Cheryl B. Sawyer,
Ed.D., a gifted educator, it inspired the nation following Sept.
11, 2001. This poem was set to music by a 15-year-old, award
winning composer, Karen Adams, who interwove it with "The Pledge
of Allegiance." Powerful quotes of heroes, from the Revolutionary
War to the War on Terrorism, were added. Then it was recorded by
thirteen performers who donated their time with the goal of
rekindling the powerful spirit of good that was experienced after
Sept. 11, 2001 and honoring America's past, present and future
heroes. Ranging in age from 68 to 11, these performers have an
impressive list of collective accomplishments which include
national and international performance tours, 2002 Winter Olympic
Opening Ceremonies and Medals Plaza performances, Lincoln and
Kennedy Center performances, a White House soloist, Mormon
Tabernacle Choir broadcasts, and the acclaimed BYU International
Folk Dancers. Group members have performed with or been
acknowledged by John Williams, the King Singers, Evelyn Glennie,
Roy Rogers and others. In addition to national TV appearances,
including two Presidential Inaugurations, group members have also
won numerous awards in composition and performance.
